The role will play a critical role in shaping the structures, governance, service models and enabling functions of the new authority. Success will be delivered through partnership working, transparent decision‑making and a deep understanding of the political, cultural and operational environment across all councils.

We are looking for a senior leader with a strong track record of delivering major, multi‑organisational transformation. You will bring political acumen, resilience, and the ability to influence and inspire stakeholders at every level. Your experience of working within complex public‑sector environments will enable you to navigate the challenges of a high‑profile and fast‑moving programme while maintaining alignment across a diverse group of partners.

Nottinghamshire County Council

Head of Legal, Democratic Services and Information Governance & Deputy Monitoring Officer

Salary: £82,851 - £92,451

We’re Nottinghamshire County Council, and we’re a community – inside and out. As we proudly serve a population of over 800,000 people across our county, we support each other, empower each other and respect each other. Our mission is to improve lives across Nottinghamshire. And we do that by providing top-quality, vital services for our residents, working closely together, and with people in the wider community, to do it. It means that when you join us, you’ll feel part of something bigger than yourself. And you’ll feel the impact of your work every day, because it’ll happen right on your doorstep.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for an ambitious legal professional ready to step into an influential role within an upper-tier authority at a time of significant change. As the organisation prepares for and navigates Local Government Reorganisation (LGR), we are seeking a strong leader who can provide both strategic direction and operational assurance across Legal, Democratic Services and Information Governance.

You will hold strategic responsibility for the council’s legal and governance functions, ensuring robust decision-making, sound governance and effective risk management. As Deputy Monitoring Officer, you will act as a trusted adviser to members and senior officers, operating confidently in a political and fast-paced environment.

Alongside this, you will lead the day-to-day delivery of the service, maintaining high standards, managing demand and ensuring a responsive, solutions-focused legal and governance offer. This role requires someone who can combine strategic thinking with hands-on leadership to deliver consistently strong outcomes.

A key part of the role will be leading people through change. You will play a central role in shaping governance and legal arrangements through LGR, while developing and bringing on your team, building confidence, capability and resilience across the service.

We are looking for a leader first, with strong legal and governance expertise, sound judgement and the ambition to grow. You may already be operating at Head of Service level or be a high-potential senior leader ready to step up and cut your teeth at senior leadership level.

This role offers real scope to shape services, develop as a leader and make a tangible impact at a pivotal moment for the organisation and the sector. If you’re ready to join us in our goal to create a better, more prosperous county for everyone in Nottinghamshire, apply now.
